here, there, everywhere!

within this last week i will have been in 5 states, put over 1000 miles on my car, and been in a plane.

some stuff is cool: trying on bridesmaids dresses for my friend, sarah, in charlotte NC and trying to find random irish bars to meet up with dad's girlfriend's daughter's cousin (oh yeah, i'm in the south ;). or going to my friend's wedding in houston and meeting up with my college friends from all over the world!

some stuff is less than cool: detour on i-65N on the way to huntsville, AL because of a giant 30 foot sinkhole and getting lost in some backwoods and no cell service. then finally make it to huntsville only to literally almost run out of gas and have to get out of my car at a stop sign and ask the guy behind me in a truck if he knew where the nearest gas station was because i'm from out of town and i don't have enough gas to drive around looking for a gas station. ... .....

but back to cool: seeing my sister and her new little puppy and AWESOME barbeque at mert's in charlotte!

(and i'm moving on april 2nd to a sweet downtown condo with some amazing views of atlanta!)

in a happy coincidence, my favorite lil' guy from chicago just happens to have grandparents who live in atlanta. to celebrate his 1st birthday, they scheduled a photo shoot!

11 words | week 1

if there's one thing i learned last year while exploring photography, it was how little i do actually know. and how much i cannot wait to keep learning!

i took a digital 101 class in chicago and learned a great deal about the fundamentals. spent the rest of the year practicing. and decided it was time for more education & assignments (yes, i am a nerd. i love homework).

week 1 of digital 102 was more of a review. which is nice because you only absorb so much the first time around. the assignment was take pictures that represent a list of 11 words. we only had to present 4 in class, so i'll post those here and the word they represent.

pb.12 tec petaja | my favorites

i love finding hidden gems. in the millions of billions of websites available on the www, i found this guy. not sure how now. not sure how many other people know him. but he's good. really good.

first, i like that he has made the south his home and is embracing a style of photography that hasn't quite seemed to make it down here yet. his blog is simple and about the photographs. his work is refined and timeless. his clients are funky. he captures the details.

his work is of a style i most certainly can appreciate. enjoy.

walking in piedmont park | midtown

my old city, chicago, was filled with miles of parks stretching along the shores of lake michigan. literally, i could walk out my door, head north and still be running five miles later through the park. that is definitely one thing i miss about chicago.

however, it was about may before i could actually enjoy chicago's parks. yet, i went for a walk this february in midtown atlanta's largest park, piedmont park.

this park has ties to the world's fair of 1895 and frederick law olmstead, designer of many famous parks including central park in new york city and the grounds for the chicago columbian exposition of 1893. it's also apparently the birthplace of the u[sic]ga and georgia tech baseball rivalry!

now they have a farmers market on saturdays, movie screenings on thursdays, concerts, and on any given day hundreds of cyclists and runners, kids and dogs, people playing volleyball or softaball all enjoying nice weather. a lot of people fill the outside seating at park tavern during any day with a drop of sunshine, drinking whilst watching other people exercise ;)
